Combining technical foundations with unbounded creative expression, this hands-on program is designed to help you discover your unique voice as a composer and music producer. You’ll gain essential industry knowledge while sharpening your skills in production, songwriting, and composition across a range of contemporary styles.
At the heart of the course are weekly one-on-one private mentoring sessions, tailored to enhance your production capabilities, develop your songwriting craft, and build a professional portfolio of original works and production projects.
Through a balanced mix of theoretical and practical training, you will explore:
Composition and arranging techniques
Music theory and analysis
Recording and production workflows
Industry and professional practice
You’ll also master industry-standard software including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, and Sibelius, empowering you to bring your musical ideas to life. Whether you’re starting out or already producing, you’ll gain the tools to overcome creative blocks, refine your sound, and confidently express your artistic identity through innovative music creation.
The Diploma of Music (Composition & Production) is delivered over two trimesters and is structured to build your technical, creative, and collaborative capabilities step by step.
Production Major 1 – PSP209

Music Collaboration Stream 1 (Elective)
Work with fellow students across disciplines to create collaborative works in a real-world team environment.
Music Theory 1 – PSP203

Train your ear to identify pitch, rhythm, and harmonic relationships critical to composing and producing music.

Composition and Arranging – PSP212
Apply theory and creativity to develop original compositions and arrangements in various styles and settings.
Introduction to Music Business – PSP211
Understand the core principles of the music industry including publishing, copyright, royalties, and career management.
Applicants must be at least 17 years of age at the time of commencement.
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
Successful completion of Year 12 in the Australian school system, OR
An equivalent qualification with a Senior Secondary Certificate including a pass in General English, OR
A Certificate IV (or higher) – for Bachelor-level applicants, OR
A Certificate III (or higher) – for Diploma-level applicants
International students must provide evidence of English language proficiency through one of the following:
IELTS Academic: Overall score of 6.5, with no individual band score below 6.0
TOEFL iBT: Overall score of 73, with a minimum writing score of 18
PTE Academic: Overall score between 50–57
Cambridge English (CAE) – C1 Advanced: Overall score of 169
